Woman in a Box:

Ultimately to me,  "In the Cold" was about obsession—primarily that of the main character and secondly that of the his wife.  An obsession is like a trap, being caught in a mirrored box and seeing no way out.  In this story, catching the psychological state of the characters was of primary importance and illustrating that state of mind was the challenge.
