I wanted the figures of Shaman and Padre to be a part of the landscape, not separate from it. This is one of the reasons they are off to one side of the composition, instead of  in the middle. One of the themes of Gregory Norris' story is that man is not above nature, but part of  it, still struggling to find a place within it.
